RESIDENTS of Villa Scott condominium in Jalan Scott, Brickfields, will submit a memorandum to the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), urging it to put a stop to an adjacent high-rise development.
A pro-tem committee formed to object to the project is collecting signatures from residents and others in the area and will seek a meeting with the local authority.
Saraswathy Rajagopal, 73, who lives with her husband in Block A, urged DBKL to listen to the plight of the residents.
"We are living in anxiety due to the tremors that can be felt in our building due to the project next door," she said.
Villa Scott comprises four blocks with each consisting of 30 floors. There are more than 370 units in total.
Resident Dr Eratha Krishnan, who lives here with his wife and son, related feeling a vibration underneath his unit's floor at around 8.30am early this week.
"We could feel the vibration from inside the master bedroom and the balcony. We could also hear a very loud noise," he said.
The residents met with Bukit Bintang MP Fong Kui Lun on Saturday (Jan 29) and he proposed that a meeting be held between the residents, DBKL and the developer.
"They must ensure very strict conditions to ensure the safety of residents," he said.
On Nov 20 last year, StarMetro reported on a plan to build a 38-storey office block on a plot of land next to the Villa Scott condominium.
DBKL, in a written response to a StarMetro report on Dec 4, said the development fulfilled the necessary criteria by the planning surveyor.
These included providing access routes, parking space and provision of public utilities.
"An traffic assessment found the existing infrastructure is adequate to support the proposed development.
"There are also public transportation systems available in the area such as the KL Sentral Komuter and LRT, as well as Tun Sambanthan monorail station," it said.
